Hundreds of young athletes to compete at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar for Sunshine State Invitational Kickoff Classic – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIRAMAR, FLA. (WSVN) – Athletes from all over the world will soon be heading to the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar to show off their skills.

Next month, hundreds of athletes will gather at the complex to run, jump and fight their way to a possible medal in the Sunshine State Invitational Kickoff Classic.

“As you can see, the theme and the background: it’s here in Miramar, you too. We are very happy to have the event, ”said a parks and recreation manager for the town of Miramar. “In this case here with the young athletes being a kickoff, what a wonderful place to do it.”

On January 29, the 24-acre complex will host young athletes from across the country to show off their skills at a one-of-a-kind event.

“I’m super excited. I’ve never had an event here in my hometown,” said one athlete.

“I’m really impatient because normally I have to get out of state to go to some good competitions, but here I can really just drive here. It’s a very short drive so it’s really convenient for me. Said another athlete.

Supported by SoFlo pro-Olympian Bershawn Jackson and founder Antwon Chaney, the duo hope the track competition becomes a fixture in the South Florida community.

“I expect thousands of kids,” Jackson said. “I want to see if we can have at least three or four thousand children.”

“The sport here in South Florida has really, really taken a step forward and I feel like we could take another step as well,” said Chaney.

Earlier this year, the Ansin sports complex also hosted an Olympic qualifying track and field event.

Now some local sprinters will have the chance to compete on the same track as the world’s fastest woman, Elaine Thompson-Herah.

“It was the place and a lot of hits are happening on this track,” said Chaney. “A lot of records have been broken on this track. We wanted to start off on the right foot and I think that’s it.
